How to make a bootable floppy disk

Samsung have received requests from users to provide bootable floppy disks for the purpose of updating BIOS or MICOM. We have reviewed what we are legally allowed to provide to users and are happy to provide the RXDOS bootable floppy. This is provided under the GNU public licence and can be distributed subject to the licence which can be viewed below.

Samsung have validated this bootable floppy only for the purpose of updating BIOS and MICOM on Samsung Notebook computers. Samsung make no warranties as to the bootable floppy's fitness for purpose in any other task.

To create a bootable floppy please follow these steps

  • First put a blank formatted floppy disk into your floppy disk drive
  • Then copy (right click on the file and choose "save as")the files diskfile.exe and rxdos.img to the root (C:\) directory of your hard disk
  • Then open a command prompt (usually start / programs / accessories / command prompt)
  • Then change directory to the root directory (cd \)
  • Then type the following command diskfile rxdos.img a:
  • This will create a bootable floppy disk, you will then have to copy the required files to the floppy disk as instructed in the BIOS or MICOM section relevant to your machine and then boot from the floppy disk
  • Please reboot your machine and go into "setup" (press F2 during the start-up sequence, except VM8000 which is press DELETE during start-up sequence) and then select the "boot" section and ensure that the floppy disk drive is selected before the hard disk drive
  •

    diskfile.exe Please download this file to the root directory of your hard disk.

    rxdos.img Please download this file to the root directory of your hard disk.

    The following files are provided to comply with the GPL licence, there is no need to download them for updating BIOS or MICOM

    rxdos-exes.zip A zip file containing the latest executables for RXDOS.

    rxdos-src.zip A zip file containing the source for RXDOS.
